We are a certified organic operation. Each season we put together a farm plan that shows how we rotate crops, build soil, and manage weeds and pests. Managing soil health is a key aspect of our crop production system. We focus on building soils by reducing soil disturbance, promoting biodiversity, and keeping the soil covered with plants. We make extensive use of cover crops in rotation with vegetable crops to prevent erosion, improve soil physical properties, fix nitrogen, supply nutrients, suppress weeds, and support soil biology. Compost and organic fertilizers are also used to maintain soil fertility. Seeds and other inputs are organic when available. We control pests and disease through strategic crop rotation, biological pesticides, monitoring pest cycles, and cultural practices such as using row covers.
